Culturally Responsive Care with an Asian American Psychologist

Thank you for being here. Reaching out for therapy is a deeply vulnerable and personal process, especially when you’ve been taught to handle things on your own, minimize your feelings, or avoid being a “burden.” Finding a therapist you trust and feel comfortable with matters greatly. My goal is to offer a space where you don’t have to filter your experiences, cultural background, or emotions, you can just be.

I’m a second-generation Chinese American psychologist who specializes in working with Asian American adults navigating identity, relationships, family dynamics, and mental health. I understand firsthand how mental health stigma, family expectations, intergenerational trauma, and cultural pressures can shape how we see ourselves and how we move through our lives. These experiences can leave us feeling stuck between cultures, disconnected from their needs, or unsure how to set boundaries.

In therapy, I aim to create a safe, nonjudgmental, culturally responsive space to explore personal, cultural, and relational challenges while also strengthening your relationship with yourself. I firmly believe that change is possible at any stage of life, and I see therapy as a collaborative process where we move at a pace that feels both supportive and growth-oriented.

How I Work

My approach blends emotional depth with practical tools. Therapy with me is not just about insight, it’s also about building skills that help you feel more grounded, confident, and aligned with your values in your life.

I help clients work through:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Depression and emotional burnout

  • Trauma and relational wounds

  • Identity development and cultural identity conflicts

  • Boundary setting and people-pleasing patterns

  • Communication difficulties in romantic relationships and friendships

  • Family-of-origin dynamics and intergenerational trauma

  • Life transitions, career stress, and perfectionism

Together, we’ll build your capacity to:

  • Understand and regulate emotions

  • Set boundaries without overwhelming guilt

  • Make decisions with more clarity and self-trust

  • Navigate conflict more effectively

  • Strengthen romantic relationships and friendships

  • Develop self-compassion and psychological flexibility

I draw from evidence-based therapies including:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

  • Prolonged Exposure (PE)

  • Culturally responsive and multicultural therapy

  • Developmental and relational frameworks

This integrative approach supports sustainable, values-aligned growth, even in the midst of uncertainty or stress.

My Background

I hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University and have trained in a range of clinical settings, including college counseling centers, VA hospitals, public hospitals, and private practice. I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the VA Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center and my postdoctoral residency at Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Adult Psychiatry.

These experiences allow me to support clients with both clinical depth and cultural nuance, particularly Asian American adults balancing multiple identities, roles, and expectations.
