Frequently Asked Questions

  • I work with adults from many backgrounds. However, I have particular experience and specialization in providing culturally responsive therapy for Asian American adults. Many of my clients are navigating identity, anxiety, perfectionism, family expectations, and relationship stress within an Asian American cultural context. My approach integrates cultural awareness, relational dynamics, and individual emotional needs.

  • Yes. I provide telehealth therapy for adults located anywhere in California, including the Bay Area (San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Berkeley, and surrounding communities). Sessions are held via HIPAA-compliant Zoom, allowing you to attend therapy from the privacy and convenience of your own space.

  • I am in-network with Aetna. For all other insurance plans, I can provide a superbill (a detailed receipt of services) that you may submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement rates vary depending on your individual plan. You can use this tool to help look up your specific plan benefits.

  • My current rate for a 50-minute individual therapy session is $260. Many clients without in-network coverage use a superbill to seek partial reimbursement from their insurance provider. Coverage varies, so it may be helpful to contact your insurance company to ask about out-of-network mental health benefits. You can also use this tool to help view your specific plan benefits.

  • Starting therapy is a meaningful step to prioritize your mental and emotional well-being. I begin with a complimentary consultation call to understand what you’re looking for and to assess whether we are a good therapeutic fit.

If we decide to move forward, you will complete intake paperwork and questionnaires. Our first session is an intake session, where we explore your current concerns, relevant history, and initial goals. From there, therapy sessions focus on your treatment goals, emotional processing, insight, and practical tools. I may also suggest between-session practices or resources to support your progress.

  • It’s very common to feel unsure. Therapy does not require you to be in crisis. Many adults seek therapy for clarity, personal growth, relationship support, or to better understand long-standing emotional patterns. The consultation call is a low-pressure way to explore whether therapy would be helpful.

  • I typically recommend starting with weekly therapy to build momentum and establish a strong foundation with all new clients. As progress is made, many clients choose to transition to biweekly sessions and eventually to occasional check-ins as needed.

The overall length of therapy varies depending on your goals, needs, and preferences. Treatment is collaborative and flexible rather than time-limited by default.

  • I understand that finances are an important consideration. I maintain a limited number of sliding-scale spots in my practice. If cost is a concern, we can discuss this during a consultation to see whether a reduced-fee space is available.

  • Referrals are always appreciated and I see them as one of the highest forms of a compliment my clients can give me. However, for ethical reasons, I cannot accept referrals from current clients if the person being referred is directly involved in the client’s therapy concerns (for example, a partner or family member you are discussing in treatment). In most other situations, I’m happy to receive your referrals.

  • At this time, I provide therapy only for individual adults. I do not offer couples therapy, family therapy, or services for minors.
